2 years ago yesterday, I started a new chapter of my life, becoming the CEO at Habitat for Humanity Saint John Region. After 33 years in the private sector, I made the jump to working for this wonderful non-profit. It has been a busy two years and we have accomplished a great deal in a short time.
From that first day, we have embarked on a journey to serve even more families than ever before in the Sussex to St. Stephen region. That’s our mission.
Last year we placed two families in their homes, fulfilling their dreams of an affordable homeownership opportunity. We had another record year at the Saint John ReStore, with the profits used to cover the costs of salaries and administration. This ensured that all of the funds contributed by our donors went entirely to the building of homes for families.
This year we are building three homes alongside our families – the most in our history so far. We have one home underway in Grand Bay–Westfield, and another one in St. Stephen, two areas we have not served to date. We will be starting another home in Quispamsis in the next few weeks. We also opened a new ReStore in Sussex with hopes that it will be a long-term success, and that this new presence will help to attract families in that area. This initial pop-up concept is the first of its kind in NB.
The Saint John ReStore is on another record pace this year, thanks to the amazing support of our customers and the record setting donations received at our loading area.
We don’t accomplish these new milestones without the amazing support of our board, associates, donors, volunteers, and of course our wonderful families that are looking to bring their dreams of affordable homeownership to life. My personal thanks to each and every person and company that is on this journey with us.
