Apply for Housing
Habitat for Humanity is an independent, charitable, faith-based housing program dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing by building homes in partnership with families in need. We build simple, decent, and affordable houses and provide interest-free mortgages to families who would otherwise not be able to purchase their own home. The Habitat program is about home ownership and providing a long-term solution designed to break the poverty cycle.
Qualified Habitat homebuyers are:
In need of better housing: Potential homebuyers might be dealing with poorly maintained, unhealthy or overcrowded housing; unaffordable rent; inaccessible housing for people living with disabilities; or have other shelter needs.
Willing to partner with Habitat: Habitat homebuyers put in hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” volunteering with Habitat. This typically involves helping build their own home or the homes of others in the program, volunteering in their local Habitat ReStore as well as taking classes in personal finance, home maintenance and other homeownership topics.
Able to make affordable mortgage payments: Habitat offers homebuyers an affordable homeownership opportunity. Their mortgage payments cycle back into the local Habitat for Humanity to help build more affordable houses.
Minimum Income:
Using the 30% affordability standard (GDSR) and assuming that the affiliate only provides one mortgage for the full value of the home, the minimum required income for each size of home is calculated as follows:
