What is a ReStore?

What is a Habitat ReStore and how does it help my community?

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are home and building supply stores that accept and resell quality new and used building materials. Shopping at a Habitat ReStore is a socially conscious decision, as funds generated are used to fund local Habitat for Humanity homebuilding projects. It’s also an environmentally conscious decision, as much of what is sold is product that is new, gently used or customer returns that would otherwise end up in a landfill.

in 2017 you gave very generously to our ReStore – with your help we diverted more than 435 tons from our landfill. Amazing!

In addition, thru our partnership with the EPRA (Electronic Products Recycling Association, we diverted 58 tons of e-waste from our landfill!

Seems like a great idea!

It is, and it’s a Canadian idea at that. Five volunteers from Winnipeg, Manitoba opened Habitat for Humanity’s first-ever ReStore in 1991. Today, there are over 100 ReStores across Canada and more than 1,000 worldwide, all raising funds to enable more families to partner with Habitat and access affordable homeownership.

Every ReStore is different, offering a unique shopping experience for those looking to add something new to their homes. The inventory is always changing, as new items are donated by local residents and businesses daily. Consumers can expect to find items such as windows, doors, paint, hardware, lumber, tools, lighting fixtures, furniture and appliances.

We accept donations from the general public and businesses, and in most cases we can provide charitable receipts!

Volunteer at a Habitat ReStore

While many Habitat build projects only take place at certain times of the year, Our Habitat ReStores provide the opportunity to volunteer year-round. We are always looking for new volunteers, and it’s a great place to learn skills and meet new people, all while helping build more affordable Habitat homes for local families.
